Some say that in order to succeed one has to argue limitations, so when Investments Cars and Live Out Loud joined forces to host a Supercar Day, they ensured that not only would speed limits be argued, they would be broken.
The automotive top guns - Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche - ensured that quality was the order of the day as 78 of the luxury sports cars arrived at Kyalami last Saturday eager to heat up the track.
Cruising at speeds of 250km/h, advanced, intermediate and novice drivers all put pedal to the floor hoping to beat lap records all while handling each turn with high-speed panache. As lunch was served, the pit-lane converted into a lavish showroom for mere mortals to marvel at, and while some drivers opted to relax most drivers continued to exchange stories of technique and tactics. Nevertheless, as the next round of racing commenced a few proved to be all torque.
Before the parade lap where an estimated R200 million lined the track, a fantastic prize-giving was held where one driver drove up to collect his prize from One on One Antiques in his new Mercedes SLR - one of only two in the country. The final race between a Lamborghini Superleggera and a Eurocopter was an absolute showstopper that had the crowd in a spin as to who truly was the fastest. Yet when the Lamborghini accelerated from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds it stole the checked flag, proving that while for some the sky is their limit, the cars on the track had none.
