Asked how he sees the future of business publishing in South Africa, Succeed editor Wessel Ebersohn said that he feels that the challenges facing print media can be beneficial. “They compel publications to improve their strategies. The sheer variety of media emerging today makes it necessary that publishers continually add value to the products they offer the market. It is for this reason that Succeed is always searching for the best and brightest young people in the field. Our young stars have contributed greatly to our position as the country's market leader in the entrepreneurship field.”
His view is that while global forces provide many of the challenges facing publishers, local realities are still more significant. “Overseas publications, no matter what their international footprint, will never be real competitors on African soil. We live on a singular continent and are citizens of a still more singular country. To be successful in South Africa you have to be at one with the people of both country and continent. The challenges are real for all of us and only a business magazine with roots in South Africa can serve its readers well.
