The Engen Dynamic Cycle Challenge promises to be an exciting new addition to the sports calendar as the event offers all passionate cycling enthusiasts, from licensed professional cyclists to fun riders, the opportunity to compete in either a long route race of 104km or short route of 45km, with prize monies to total value of R30 000.

Interest in the event has been positive with confirmed participation by the MTN Microsoft Men's and Women's Pro Teams, the House of Paint Men's Pro Team and the Acsis Pro Teams.

The gun will sound at 07h00 to mark the start of the long route ride and at 08h00 for the short route leg. As in the case of the short route, the long route participants will start at Princess Elizabeth Drive where their journey will take them along the R56 towards Richmond, passing via the R625 towards Eston before re-joining the short route course on the R603 towards Ashburton. Both the short and long routes return via the R56 into Pietermaritzburg. Cut off time is 14h30.

There are also many incentives for those wishing to participate in the event: the first 250 registered entrants will each receive a cycling starter kit, and there will be hamper giveaways up for grabs on the day worth R5,000 each, consisting of a Bell Sweep Helmet, Darc Box Set, Blackburn Neuro 4.0 Comp., Blackburn Voyager 4.0 Light, Blackburn Mars 3.0 Light, Blackburn Air Tower and Ryder Bike Pump.

Three Schwinn Peleton bicycles to the total value of R65,000 will be given away by lucky draw during the closing ceremony.

We look forward to what promises to be a successful event that will reward the passion of all cycling enthusiasts,” said Brad Bergh, Engen's Corporate Sponsorship Manager.

As is the case with its other sport sponsorships, Engen has committed to raise funds in aid of the Children's Hospital Trust, the fundraising arm of the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital, through the Engen Cycling ‘Ride for Red' campaign. Funds will be raised from a portion of participant entry fees and various other initiatives around the event.
