Sportingweb launches the Business of Sport
Issued by: SAIL

Sportingweb, South Africa's premier sports betting information website, has a new section called the Business of Sport. This addition to Sportingweb is now live and can be viewed at www.sportingweb.co.za.

The Business of Sport, as the name suggests, focuses on sports-related business news, from brand management, advertising and sponsorship to running a large sports company profitably, and from player management to the economic effects of large sporting events.

A key component of the Business of Sport is a section called Market Place, where South African firms and individuals can tell the world about their sports-related deals and business ideas.

Dermott White, the editor of Sportingweb, said the Business of Sport section was a logical move given that Sportingweb was part of the business-orientated Moneyweb group.

“Sportingweb's focus is to help fans get the most enjoyment they can from watching the game. Helping them to know more about the business angle of sport contributes to this,” said White.

“However, we also hope to attract more readers from the business community. Sport, in all its forms, is a huge industry, and people involved in the industry need top-quality news and information.

“We look forward to covering the business angle of sport with the same enthusiasm and dedication that we bring to our sports previews and news.”

He added that the Market Place section would publish sports-related press releases, and companies were encouraged to send their announcements to Sportingweb.

The SAIL Group is the first sports and entertainment company to associate itself with this initiative. SAIL, which is at the forefront of the sports and entertainment marketing and innovation fields in southern Africa, is looking forward to being involved.

Brand de Villiers, the CEO of the group, said: “The sport and entertainment industry is currently a very exciting industry to be involved in, with some very high-profile events, such as the Vodacom Challenge, the British and Irish Lions Tour and, of course, the FIFA 2010 World Cup coming-up.

“We are very excited to support the start of this venture and look forward to supporting the site in future. We hope the site will create an even bigger interest in the sector, profile some of the big players and provide a reference point for all involved in this industry.

“We at SAIL are keen to participate in ventures that grow the industry. We would like to urge all corporates involved in the industry to support the site and its Market Place section with news of their sponsorships and events.

“We want to see the site grow into the premier news site with regards to the business of sport.”
