Jacaranda 94.2 demonstrates the power of local music
Issued by: Jacaranda 94.2

Fresh, local content is at the heart of Jacaranda 94.2's latest online Demo Station campaign that will see the station profiling hot, new local bands exclusively on its website and on-air.

Lloyd Madurai, Jacaranda 94.2 Programme Manager
The aim of the drive is to highlight unsigned artists and bands, also allowing for previous non-users of the station to be exposed to the Jacaranda 94.2 brand and in so doing, aid in shifting the perception of the brand towards a fresher, more edgy positioning.

Programme Manager Lloyd Madurai says: “It's free content that will showcase our commitment to the local music industry. Demo Station allows for musicians and bands to showcase their music that may be out of the Jacaranda 94.2 format, this will allow for anything from rock to hip-hop being played.”

Registering for Demo Station is quite simple:
  • Step 1, log onto www.jacarandafm.com;
  • Step 2, click on the demo station button on the front page;
  • Step 3, fill out the easy to use registration form;
  • Step 4, fill in your band biography and start to upload your songs for the world to hear. Demo Station also gives you the opportunity to showcase your events and upload pictures of your band.

Listeners can then vote and comment on their favourite nominated Demo Station band on www.jacarandafm.com. The beauty of the campaign is that the nominated bands don't need to conform to the traditional Jacaranda 94.2 station playlist, allowing for the participation of non-users in the promotion. Demo Stations also allows for the uploading and sharing of user- generated content, as well as the establishment of communities via the Jacaranda 94.2 portal/website.

Jacaranda 94.2 Trade Marketing Manager Bridget Clur explains: “Given that users wanting to participate in Demo Station have to register, this results in up-to-date, user-specific data. In the future, this will allow our advertisers to target potential customers with personalised content/advertising messages according to the music preferences they have displayed during their use of the site, e.g. rock.

At present, the advertising opportunities associated with the promotion include, on-air, on-line and Jacaranda 94.2's popular mobile platform Demo Station on Jacaranda 94.2 - the first of its kind in South Africa. Advertisers will be exposed to a non-traditional audience via this platform. By advertising on this site, advertisers can also communicate directly with their target market with little wastage, thereby achieving return on investment.

Madurai reports that phase one of the launch was a phenomenal success for Jacaranda 94.2 and the second phase will include a mobile platform, endorsements from the local music industry and bands will shortly be able to upload their music videos.

He adds: "As a leading multimedia company, Jacaranda 94.2 is proud to spearhead Demo Station on all its platforms, as we believe user-generated content is going to be the driving force behind the station's drive of ‘bringing sexy back'."
