Oil company invests in Malawi

Total Group, which has already invested over US$20 million in Malawi since its merger with Mobil Oil Malawi Limited, has announced that it will be investing US$4 million annually in the country in a drive to boost its projects.

The Group's Deputy Director of Operation for South East Africa and Indian Ocean Alban d'Hautefeuille Baudoult, in Malawi to review several of the company's projects, said, “We intend to improve on our product quality, network of our service stations and service delivery; we would be achieving this by pumping in US$4 million on a yearly basis,” he said. He added that the company would continue to invest globally despite rising oil prices.

The company's MD in Malawi, Clement Isong, said they would launch a campaign where the company will be guiding its customers on how to manage business in the face of rising fuel prices.

During his visit, Baudoult presided over several CSI engagements where the company gave the Endangered Species of Malawi (ESOM) K1.5 million to manage Malawi's wildlife sanctuary at Liwonde National Park and K600, 000 to 24 students at the University of Malawi from the faculties of engineering and commerce in recognition for their excellent work.
