This course is a condensed design and print course, which has been customised in order to understand design, conceptualise ideas, and create ideas digitally.
The course comprises five different digital design applications to enable the execution of both work time- and cost-effectively, from design and technical aspects.
Adobe InDesignAdobe's leading layout package, which is currently making inroads into the design and print industry and has now been adopted by some of the larger publishing houses.
Illustrator and Photoshop qualities have been built into InDesign, making it an exciting and user-friendly application.
Adobe IllustratorIllustrator is a graphic application, which is used extensively overseas particularly for illustration and packaging. Although similar to Freehand, it has more illustrative capabilities and is exciting to use since it has many of Photoshop's filters and effects inbuilt in order to create or re-create logos, illustrations, and packaging.
Adobe PhotoshopPhotoshop is used extensively in the digital design industry today. It is used to manipulate and create images, which are used in the print, web and new media environments.
QuarkXpressQuarkXPress is another page layout program used in the print industry. It is an application used for the creation of sophisticated layouts with complete text formatting control, inclusion of photographic and vector imagery combined with basic drawing tools. It can be used to create books, magazines, brochures, annual reports, advertisements, posters, leaflets, brochures, stationery, etc. An inclusion of interactivity allows the user to successfully convert print files
for the web environment.
FreehandFreehand, similar to Adobe Illustrator, is a very dynamic graphic application, which is used for creating or recreating logos, illustrations, packaging and designing layouts.
AcrobatAcrobat is used to create and exchange documents, control and review comments. Security can be added to the PDF file in order for critical information to stay secure.
A PDF document can be compiled from multiple documents and it is possible to create an interactive document with buttons, bookmarks, sound and movies.
PDFs of all their project work will be used to create an interactive digital portfolio.
PortfolioDuring this period, any improvements on previously completed projects can be made in additon to creating further new projects to be incorporated in final portfolios.
Apart from presenting portfolios on a CD, all the portfolio projects are required to be printed, backed with black card and laminated, so that hard copy of their portfolio can be presented professionally and at the required industry standard.
First impressions last and it is important that each student leaves Concept Interactive with a portfolio that creates a lasting and confident impression to all potential employers.
